About us
What We Teach?
FBC South Houston holds to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. We also use historic creeds, confessions, and catechisms (i.e. the Nicene Creed, Apostles’ Creed, 2nd London Baptist Confession of 1689, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Baptist Catechism) as discipleship tools. We believe that Christ never abandoned His church and has used the early church to inform, educate, and encourage the modern man.

Mission
FBCSH exists to build God’s kingdom by bringing people to Christ and membership in His church, teaching them to become like Jesus, incorporating them into God’s family, ministering to them and our community, and to worship God individually and as a body of believers.
Vision
To enjoy and share Christ in our church, family, and community.
familia y comunidad.
Values
Rest And Assurance
Our emphasis of assurance is to exalt the love and faithfulness of Christ towards those who trust in Him alone for salvation. We believe that when a person is at rest and assured of his calling, the strength and cheerfulness of holiness will abound. (John 5:24, Romans 4:4-5, Romans 5:1-2, Matthew 11:28-20)
Transformation
In a world of relativism, there must be a prophetic voice to bring clarity. Gender confusion, moral relativism, and the denial of absolute truth has led our generation to a world of chaos. As a result, we value the word of God as our source for knowledge and truth. (John 17:17-18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; John 14:6)

Love and Unity
Christ loves for His people to love one another. This love is demonstrated in unity. No other sign did Christ leave the non-believer to judge the church except to see if Christians love each other. We believe that we should fervently love each other and fellowship together as one body. (John 17:11, 20-22; 1John 4:7-8; John 13:5; Phil 2:2)
Genuine
We value being genuine. Our struggles, doubts, and trials are not something for us to hide from men and God. On the contrary, those are tools God uses to prepare us for this life. In order to be refreshed, encouraged, and uplifted, we must stop wearing the mask and be genuine. As a result, we value being genuine with yourself, men, and God. (Ps 73:1-2; Ps 51:1-4; 1 Peter 1:6-7; Luke 5:31)
History of FBC South Houston

First Missionary Baptist Church was founded by 23 members in the city of Dumont, Texas in March of 1909 on land donated by the Western Land Company. (The town was renamed South Houston in 1913). The first pastor (Frank Morgan) was called in the spring of 1910, and there have been several faithful pastors and ministries in our church’s history. There have been missionaries sent out from our church and multiple churches who have been planted from the initiative of our church. Our current sanctuary was finished in June 1958.
In May 2024, First Baptist Church of South Houston and Harvest Baptist Church came together as one local church body, as we seek to fulfill our mission in the city of South Houston. Because we are committed to sharing Christ with all members our community, our services are bilingual in English and Spanish. Through the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, the recessions, the wars, the hurricanes, and everything in between, our church has persevered in its mission to make disciples of South Houston, and that is why we are still here today.
